Tesla’s camera system transfers freeway shooters in the USA

The future of transport is networked and at least partially autonomous. Many vehicles already have dozens of driver assistance systems, cameras and sensors around the car to ensure safe use in everyday life. This is also the case with Tesla, the vehicle’s camera system has now helped to solve a criminal offense.

We’re jumping into the United States, a country where gun ownership isn’t really that special. This is also one of the reasons why dangerous incidents occur here from time to time; in Riverside, Orange and around Los Angeles, for example, a person shot at moving vehicles.

So far, the police have been somewhat in the dark, had the man not messed with a Tesla, then it would have continued to be so. The company’s vehicles have a large-scale camera system that continuously monitors the environment. The two systems “TeslaCam” and “Sentry Mode” can also be operated in this way.

This is a kind of dashcam that can also save recordings. This is what happened in the case of the Autobahn-Schützen. After the Tesla witnessed such an event, the police evaluated the data and recognized the red vehicle of a 34-year-old man.

The man was arrested and the streets should be reasonably safe again. With this, Tesla shows that the monitoring of the street space does not necessarily have to be negative. In this country, dashcams are still in a legal gray area, every police decide differently whether they will use the data as evidence.

Own opinion:

Nowadays, in my opinion, dashcams are increasingly accepted, the climate on the streets is getting harsher and harsher. Of course, permanent filming encroaches on the rights of individual persons, but saving small snippets should (hopefully) soon no longer be a problem in Germany. Because in this way many problems can be solved with less stress.
