Android phones will soon be able to stream apps to Chromebooks

Google is working on a streaming feature for Android apps in Chrome OS. The feature will work through the Phone Hub on Chromebooks, but it’s still in development at this time. It is unknown when users will be able to stream the apps on their phones.

Chromebooks will soon be able to display Android apps from your phone on the screen. In the code of Google Play Services, this form of mirroring app to see, reports XDA Developers. At the moment it is a preparation of the technology, because the function is not yet active on Android devices.

The ability to stream apps is reminiscent of the Microsoft Your Phone app that allows you to stream your apps to Windows 10 PCs. This only works in combination with a limited range of devices. It also seems that not every Andorid phone can just stream apps to Chromebooks, because there are indications in Play Services that this is a feature that is exclusive to Google Pixel phones. Although that is not yet certain.

App mirroring should work in conjunction with the new Phone Hub on Chromebooks. By tapping a notification on your Chromebook, you can start streaming the apps. The Phone Hub is the new menu on Chromebooks that serves as a connector between your phone and smartphone. The feature was part of version 89 of Chrome OS. You can both see notifications and control your phone remotely with a range of settings.
