How Google Lens works on your PC

Google Lens can now be found not only on smartphones but also in the Google search engine on your desktop. This way you can use Lens directly on your PC. That is how it works.

What is Google Lens?

Google Lens is an app that revolves around smart object and text recognition through artificial intelligence. Lens uses the information in a photo to copy or translate text, identify plants or animals, explore locations, translate menus, discover products, find similar images, and perform other useful actions.

For example, did you take a picture of a mushroom? Then use the Google Lens to find out which mushroom it is. Lens then compares the mushroom in the photo with other images and ranks these images based on their similarity and relevance to the mushroom in the original photo. Lens also uses that information to find other relevant web results.

Google Lens on your PC

Google Lens is available as a separate app, but you can also find the handy tool in Google Photos, in the Google app and in the Google Camera app. The Google search engine on your laptop or PC (Windows and macOS) is now added to this. The Google Lens button is now visible in the search bar on the Google homepage, next to the microphone that allows you to perform a search query via voice. The Google Lens button can also be found in the Google Chrome search box on your mobile.

That is how it works

Want to try Lens on your laptop or PC? Then follow these steps:

1. Tap the Lens button in the Google search engine
2. Upload an image, drag an image or paste a link to the image in the box
3. Adjust via the corners, if desired, the frame in which the object that Google should search for
4. Then you will see the results on the right side

There are also several other built-in features. For example, you can copy text from an image and even translate it when you scan it. You can also scan a QR code. The image link is similar to ‘reverse image search’ which is now also in Lens. With this option you can find out, for example, where an image comes from.
