Adam Robo diagnoses eye problems in five minutes

A Brazilian startup from Curitiba developed the Adam Robo device, with which large numbers of people can be tested quickly for eye problems in a short time. Very good news, because the sooner you are there with eye complaints, the greater the chance of recovery.

One in four people worldwide has an eye problem

Adam Robo 4.0, the most advanced model

Eye problems are one of the most common disabilities in old age, but children and young adults can also develop eye diseases. Worldwide, 2.2 billion, or more than 1 in 4, people have eye problems, according to an estimate by the World Health Organization WHO.

The consequences are serious. Our sight is our most important sense. We use it to orient ourselves, to move about, for social contacts and, for example, to read, do your work or watch a movie.

You therefore want to be there as early as possible if an eye disease threatens to occur. Because then you can start the treatment quickly. Especially with infectious diseases that cause eye problems, but also with eye problems due to diabetes, early intervention is the key to preventing worse, or even curing it. But for that to happen, the eye problems must of course be discovered first. For example, with the Adam Robo.

Adam Robo, the portable eye meter

So what you want is a fast, portable and effective device that can quickly diagnose eye problems in a lot of people in a short time. That device is now here: the Adam Robo. The most advanced model, the Adam Robo 4.0 (BRL 64.870, just over eleven thousand euros), is accompanied by an app, a printer and a connection to a server. You can operate the device with a smartphone, the administration is done via the cloud, Adam Robo Digital.

The device performs a large number of measurements at the same time and can determine a number of common eye defects, such as percentage vision, nearsightedness, farsightedness, color blindness, vision per eye, the ability to see spatially and, for low literate people, a test with pictures.

The Adam Robo 4.0 focuses mainly on companies and the dangers that eye defects can pose for employees and business operations. None of these devices is suitable for an accurate eye measurement (diopter measurement), which is necessary for glasses.

Useful invention that the world has been waiting for

Other models, such as the Adam Robo A1 (BRL 38.350, about €6500) are aimed more at a general audience, or at children (the Junior). At the moment the website is only in Portuguese. If you can’t read Portuguese, you can translate it via Google Translate or Chrome.

But a few years ago they fortunately made the English video below.

Hopefully Adam Robo will also become active in the rest of the world. A lot of human suffering can be prevented with these kinds of smart devices.
