Apple makes iPad mini more expensive (and especially in Europe we are unlucky)
The price of the iPad mini has skyrocketed. Without a new iPad mini appearing, Apple raised the price by nearly 20 percent yesterday.

iPad mini 2021 more expensive
The price increase follows the presentation of two new iPads: the iPad 2022 and the iPad Pro 2022. They are both a lot more expensive compared to their predecessor. The change is especially significant with the entry-level iPad, because it is hundreds of euros more expensive than its predecessor.
The new products also affect the price of the iPad mini, which Apple launched in September 2021. At the time you paid 559 euros for the iPad mini 2021. Now the price is 659 euros. So since yesterday you pay a hundred euros more for exactly the same iPad.
These are the new iPad mini prices:
- iPad mini (64GB, without Cellular): € 659 euros
- iPad mini (256GB, without Cellular): €859
- iPad mini (64GB, with Cellular): €859
- iPad mini (256GB, with Cellular): € 1059 euros

Price increase especially in Europe
The price increase of the iPad mini is largest in Europe. In the United States, the price did not change, and in Asia the price increases were much more modest. In Australia, the price rose by approximately 11%. In Europe it is 18%.
Apple has not explained the price increase, but it is undoubtedly related to skyrocketing inflation and the strong dollar against the euro. For these reasons, the iPhone 14 series was already considerably more expensive than last year’s line-up.
Moreover, without a price change, the entry-level iPad would be nearly as expensive as the ‘regular’ iPad. This would be strange, since the iPad mini is a more advanced iPad despite its smaller size. In the United States, a price increase for the iPad mini was not necessary, because the price increase for the iPad 2022 was less than in Europe. So the price difference was already big enough.
