48 percent of our readers bought their new phone through an online store. It is not a popular choice to buy a telephone separately through a provider or otherwise second-hand, according to our poll.

Shopping for a new phone

Shopping for a new phone can be a very fun process: see what your wishes are, which devices are available and then do plenty of research on the internet. But: do you also buy that phone via, for example, an online store, or do you prefer the city center? The most popular shopping route is by far that of an online store (48 percent). After that, 16 percent prefer to go to a physical store, while 14 percent choose to buy their phone with a subscription through a provider.

We also see more and more that you can buy phones directly from the provider and this is also used, quite a lot: 11 percent of the respondents say they buy their phone directly from the manufacturer. Buying second-hand is less popular: 4 percent do that and that is just as many people as who buy their telephone separately through a provider. Rarely does anyone buy a refurbished phone: that is less than 1 percent. Finally, 2 percent say they buy their phone elsewhere.

Shop vs Online

Glassblower puts the finger on the sensitive spot, because it says what we have all experienced by now: glassblower: Survey indicates that physical stores, no matter how unfortunate, are exit. In the Apple Stores or looking for a Samsung runner you can still go somewhere in the store. Looking for a Smart TV, I would make an appointment in a store 10 km away in Corona time. Model I was looking for not available in my city. When I asked if they could supply the corresponding screws, I was referred to a hardware store. Finally left the physical store for what it was and let the big blue online store deliver the TV to your home for a few tens more. If you don’t like it, you can return it within a month.”

There are, however, AW readers who do like to go to the physical store: M4rc0NL: “bought physically, since I like to keep the physical stores upright….” And yes, of course you always have boss above boss: people who have staff to buy their phones: Edo de Roo: “My brother-in-law bought my Pixel 6 from the Saturn in Germany, and he delivered it to me here.” Nice work Eddie.
