You really don’t want to miss these 7 handy little features

Last week the first developer preview of Android 13 appeared, and although we have already discussed the main functions, there are even smaller novelties that are worth checking out. We list the most interesting smaller cases.

Android 13 minor features

Google surprised us last week when it released the first version of Android 13. We were already acquainted with the system to add tiles yourself to the Quick settings, the Material You icons and an important privacy setting for WiFi. This time we look at seven other novelties that are part of the developer preview.

New in the Quick Settings

1. QR Code Scanner

Users will soon have more control over the handy tiles in the quick settings on their Android device. Google itself will also introduce more of those tiles. QR codes are becoming more and more popular, so it makes sense for Android to get a QR code reader that is easily accessible in the quick settings. The feature is already available on our phones at the moment, but it doesn’t work yet.

2. One-handed operation

Phone screens have become larger in recent years and as a result, devices are sometimes difficult to operate with one hand. As a solution, Google has already pushed forward the One-handed operation for some time: a function that shrinks the interface on the screen so that everything is easier to operate with one hand. This new tile allows you to enable or disable the one-handed gesture. If you turn it off, you can be sure that the one-handed operation is certainly not activated unintentionally.

3. Color Inversion

Another tile from the Quick Settings and one intended for people with color blindness. Do you have trouble reading colored text or judging the difference between colours? Color inversion makes everything easier to read.

Other Features

4. Privacy Dashboard Improvement

The Privacy Dashboard gives us more insight into sensitive permissions that apps use. For example, you can see at what times the camera or phone was used on your phone in the past day. New in Android 13 is that you can also consult a weekly overview so that you can better monitor your apps and privacy.

5. Set Guest Mode

If you want to give others access to your phone without them seeing your apps and personal information, you can activate guest mode. In Android 13 you can set which apps are accessible on your phone when guest mode is active.

Interface changes

6. Media Player

Android 13 has given a makeover to the media player that appears in the quick settings. The button to play and pause is larger and has been placed on the right side. To the right are also the buttons for shuffle and repeat. At the moment, the function is not yet active by default.

7. Media Output

An interface change that you can already see in choosing the media output. The media output can also be found in the media player in the quick settings and you can use this to switch between your bluetooth speaker, earphones or the speakers of your phone while playing music. In the new screen you will see more round shapes. When you select a device you can also use that button as a slider to adjust the volume.
