Use WhatsApp on multiple devices at once
WhatsApp is linked to your phone number. You could always only use one WhatsApp account on your phone and also link one account with your phone number. With the multi-device function announced in 2021, WhatsApp can be used on one smartphone and three other devices such as tablets, laptops or PCs. Before that, you had to have an active connection to your smartphone to be able to send messages from another device. So far, the multi-device feature has only been made available for two phones.

What is still not possible with the multi-device function in WhatsApp is its use on tablets. That will change. WhatsApp is also working on a similar feature for tablets in conjunction with another companion mode version. That feature is now available to some Androidworld readers. They will see the message below in beta version 2.22.25.8. But even without that notification, it is possible for some to link a tablet to their WhatsApp account.

This is how you connect a tablet
As soon as they click on the notification, they end up in the screen below. Here are instructions on how to install WhatsApp on a tablet:
- Find and install WhatsApp in the Google Play Store on your tablet
- Launch WhatsApp on your tablet
- Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap the menu with the three dots at the top right
- Now tap on ‘Paired devices’ and then choose ‘Pair a device’ and scan the QR code shown on the tablet.
Once WhatsApp is set up on the tablet, your chat history will be synced. Messages and calls are always end-to-end encrypted on both phones. Certain features may not yet work on tablet as it is still in beta testing.
