Year-on-year mobile sales increased after 5 years. You probably won’t guess the jumper of the year
Counterpoint Reasearch has published its analyzes assessing mobile phone sales in 2021. The figures show that for the first time in five years the number of phones sold between two consecutive years increased. In this case, 4% when they found new owners a total of 1.39 billion devices. However, as the numbers have fallen in recent years, even the current improved situation does not reach the values before the onset of the coronavirus or the processor crisis. A comparison of Q3 and Q4 2021 shows a slight decline at the end of the year.
The largest increase in the number of mobile phones sold was achieved by China’s Xiaomi, which jumped numbers by a whopping 31%. Even so, it is “only” the third place. In second place is Apple, which has improved by 18 percentage points. It has the smallest increase in the top five Samsung, which still defended the first place with about 270 million phones sold. OPPO (including OnePlus) is in fourth place and Vivo is in fifth place.
Interesting is the current position of Motorola, which is in the charts in the mass gray box, but nevertheless the largest year-on-year increase in sales in the top ten. The brand scored mainly in the US market as a substitute for LG, which gave up the production of mobile phones. It is also worth mentioning Realme, which is one of the top five most successful Android mobile manufacturers.
