Why manufacturers make your phone perform less

We humans seem to really use only a very small part of our brain capacity. But did you know that this is also often the case with phones? Manufacturers deliberately let devices perform less well than they can. This is why.

Decreased performance

Manufacturers often make apps vary in performance to make sure they don’t put too much strain on the CPU and GPU in the device. This leaves more room for other things that need to run smoothly on the phone. Apps therefore become a bit slower, take longer to load, and so on. All in all, the overall experience of the app doesn’t get any better. Sometimes this is noticeable, but sometimes not.

It is clear that there is some messing around with apps, but how far does that go? According to Korean data miners, Samsung would influence more than 10,000 apps in this way. Samsung also confirmed this: and indicated that it would certainly not stop. They are not vague apps either: Netflix and TikTok are apps that are given a little less shine by Samsung because of the performance of the Galaxy devices. But then why exactly: what is such a telephone maker trying to do?

  1. Keep the heat down: If your processor has to do a lot then it will get hotter and hotter and as you may know heat is never good for gadgets. It can even break hardware.
  2. Prioritize more important functions: the operating system is of course more important than an app in which you watch videos of how tomato sauce is made.
  3. Save battery life: One of the biggest challenges of phone makers is that the battery life is usually only one to one and a half days and people naturally prefer it longer (especially in the long run). Ensuring that apps use less energy by doing everything on fanatical mode ensures that the battery lasts longer. That day, but also in general.
  4. Cheating: While the above things also benefit you as a user, it is somewhat less with this fourth point. Benchmarks are often done by websites, a kind of tests, of how well your hardware performs and yes, you want to finish as high as possible. So use a little ‘doping’.
  5. Make upgrades look better: If you’re fed up with your phone’s slowness, then you want a new one, right? Proving it is not that easy, but it is often thought that manufacturers use the deterioration of the situation on the phone to sell new devices themselves.

Manufacturers

You can think what you want about all these things, but we’re afraid that won’t change anymore. You can hope that you don’t notice it too much and remember that if it does bother you a lot, it might be better not to go for the same phone brand.

Have you ever noticed that a manufacturer has cheated? Share it in the comments.
