WhatsApp is working on animated emoji reactions

WhatsApp is working on a feature to bring animated emojis to the app. The feature is still under development, but should be rolled out in an update soon.

WhatsApp will be working on animated comments, according to WABetainfo. This should come as a variation or replacement for the emoji reactions that can be found in WhatsApp since the middle of last year. These reactions came to the Netherlands about a month later and with this a wish of many WhatsApp users finally came true. Because of the emoji reactions you no longer have to respond to every message. By long-pressing a message, you can quickly respond to that specific message by means of an emoji without a special reaction being made. This also makes group conversations less crowded. This is because not everyone has to respond to a message, but can simply give an emoji reaction.

Other chat services such as Telegram have known this function for some time, and offer even more options. In addition, the emoji reactions in Telegram are animated. A smiling smiley really smiles at you, a heart beats like never before and you actually get a round of applause.

Telegram users – who can also join our own Telegram channel or our Telegram group – are therefore probably already familiar with the emojis. In Telegram, it has been possible to use animated reactions for a long time. Long-pressing on someone’s message brings up dozens of animated emojis that you can select as a reply.

WhatsApp is now also working on a similar function, but it is still under development. Once this is finalized, expect to see animated emojis first in the beta version of the app. The WhatsApp emojis would be created and designed by Lottie, an optimized library where designers can easily create their own designs.
