what can we expect this year?

After several years of no edition, or a slimmed-down variant of the Mobile World Congress, it has to happen again this year; the largest telephone exchange in Barcelona. DroidApp is traveling to Barcelona this year and we will give you a sneak peek here, what can we expect?

Expectations Mobile World Congress 2023

Due to the corona virus, we had to do without the real Mobile World Congress for several years. This year it should be like old times again and so DroidApp is also going to the largest mobile phone fair in the world. Ten years ago I was last there myself and in those past years quite a bit has changed in the smartphone world. 4G was emerging and foldable smartphones were not yet on the agenda. Devices like the Xperia Z or the Samsung Galaxy S II. What can we expect this year?

The Mobile World Congress 2023 will be held from February 27 to March 2, 2023. However, manufacturers will already choose moments in the days before to present their products or to share news. We will discuss the expectations of the upcoming edition of the MWC with you below.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi will hold a press conference on Sunday, February 26, the day before the official start of the show. In Barcelona we will meet the new Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro, or so it is expected. The manufacturer has already released a teaser for this. The smartphones were previously announced for the Chinese market, and we suspect that the European specifications will not differ much. The large camera module stands out, along with the Leica collaboration. So we can expect quite a bit in terms of the camera. Partly because of the Pro’s 1-inch sensor.

Both the Xiaomi 13 and the 13 Pro come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which we also saw in the OnePlus 11 and, for example, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. We have collected the specifications as announced for the Chinese market for you in this article. In Barcelona we will hear in detail what the new Xiaomi devices have to offer. Of course we also expect information about the price and availability.

Honour

Honor also has a press conference scheduled at the Mobile World Congress. On the first day of the show, on February 27, we will see new additions to the Magic family, a series consisting of foldable devices. This post is about the Magic Vs and the Magic 5 series. All three Magic 5 models come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The smartphones will be called Magic 5, Magic 5 Pro and Magic 5 Ultimate. There are also rumors about a Magic 5 Lite with a Snapdragon 695. Honor has been quiet in the Netherlands for a long time, so it remains to be seen whether we will also see the new smartphones from Honor in the Netherlands. The fact that Honor is present at the Mobile World Congress may mean that a return to the Netherlands is possible.

OnePlus

OnePlus presented the new OnePlus 11 earlier this month. The smartphone manufacturer recently teased that it will also come up with some news during the Mobile World Congress. We will be introduced to the OnePlus 11 Concept here. What this means, no idea, the manufacturer has not released anything about this. In the past we have seen various special devices from OnePlus, such as the OnePlus Concept One and the OnePlus 8T in a chameleon jacket, we may also have to look at that angle with the 11 Concept.

Nokia

Nokia will be present at the Mobile World Congress. It is unknown at this time if an announcement is planned. When more is known about this, we will update this article.

Realme

Realme, Oppo’s subsidiary brand, also has an announcement planned. The company will present a new smartphone on February 28. We are then introduced to the Realme GT3. That may not sound very exciting, but there is something very special about this smartphone. Realme supplies the device with a fast charger that charges your phone with a power of 240W.

Oppo

Oppo presented the new Oppo Find N2 Flip last week. This foldable smartphone has to compete with, for example, the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The manufacturer will probably show this foldable at the fair, just on the stand. We don’t really expect any new products on the company’s stock market. We expect the Find X6 to have its own launch at a later date.

Huawei

Given the floor plan of the MWC in Gran Via Barcelona, ​​Huawei has a large booth this year. However, it is unclear what plans the Chinese manufacturer has for the fair. We do not have very high expectations in the smartphone field. The brand is suffering a lot from the American sanctions, as a result of which devices are not supplied with Google services and announcements are hardly made anymore. We suspect that Huawei’s focus this year will be on the MateBook laptops.

Samsung

Samsung is present with a large stand at the MWC, but we should not expect new products. The Galaxy S23 series has just been announced. In addition, we expect the new Galaxy A series with, for example, the Galaxy A54 in March, with Samsung choosing a moment. We expect the new foldable Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 around the summer of this year. There were also rumors about a new laptop series in the form of the Galaxy Book, but it has already been announced.

Sony

Where in previous years Sony still used the MWC to make an announcement, this year is different. Sony informs DroidApp that it will not hold a physical press conference in Barcelona. It is expected that we will soon see the new Xperia 1 V and other models from Sony.

Motorola

Motorola has indicated that it will not hold a press conference at the MWC. So we don’t expect any new products in Barcelona.

What else do we expect?

We expect that a lot of information will be shared about 5G. About smart applications and possibilities that the network has to offer in various sectors.
