this is what’s going on

Samsung has been the victim of a major hacking attack by hackers. The same hackers previously worked at Nvidia. So now it’s Samsung’s turn. What exactly is going on?

Hacker attack at Samsung

Samsung has confirmed to Bloomberg news agency that data was stolen after a hacking attack by hacker group Lapsus$. They previously struck at Nvidia, and have now struck at Samsung. In the response from Samsung, it becomes clear that “the source code for the operation of Galaxy smartphones” has been stolen. What this exactly means is not discussed in detail.

The information comes from Samsung’s servers. In total, it concerns 190GB of files. According to the hackers, it also concerns the algorithms that Samsung uses for biometric unlocking, such as the fingerprint scanner. All data stolen by the hackers are now being distributed in various ways. In addition to the aforementioned data, it also concerns other important information. For example the bootloader, which ensures that your phone is started with the associated processes that are started. The hackers also have a code that contains more information about logging in to Samsung accounts.

According to the Korean source The Korea Herald, Samsung has launched an internal investigation. It cannot be ruled out that there is a security risk for the various Galaxy devices such as smartphones and tablets, although it is still unclear what the exact consequences are. Samsung indicates that no personal data has been stolen. It is expected that Samsung will roll out patches that address vulnerabilities in the near future.
