Hole + pill on iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 and all models in 2023
The notch as we know it will disappear with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, to be replaced by a hole and a pill. However, non-Pro iPhone 14s will not be entitled to this and will remain with the traditional notch.
The hole and the pill for the iPhone 14 Pro
Analyst Ross Young confirmed today this information that has already circulated. He adds that the pill and hole format will be present on all iPhone 15 in 2023. The most surprising is that he announces for 2022 a width similar to that of the notch that we have today.
The analyst notes, however, that it’s possible the new design will be smaller in 2023 than in 2022, freeing up more display space. Citing leaks on Chinese social network Weibo, Ross Young reports that the iPhone 14’s camera cutout could measure 5.631mm, which would leave room for downsizing next year.
What will happen in the future? Apple’s goal is to offer Face ID with the necessary sensors under the screen. So we could have a screen without notches, holes and other pills. But it won’t be ready for 2022 or 2023. Part of this problem would be linked to the coordination between the teams in charge of the screen and the sensors.
What about Touch ID under the screen? There have been a few rumors about it, but not many of them. It’s possible that Apple will explore the idea, but decide to focus more on Face ID.
