45% of readers think Sony Xperia Pro-I is a niche smartphone

The Sony Xperia Pro-I focused on photography and videography has been announced and is coming to the Netherlands. The price tag? A spicy 1,799 euros. This week we asked your opinion about this new smartphone in our poll and you are clear: this is a smartphone for a niche audience.

camera monster

1,799 euros is a lot of money for a smartphone, no matter how much we have become dependent on it. However, for that you get the cream of the crop in photography with a 1-inch camera sensor and a 24 millimeter ZEISS lens with variable aperture. For that reason, 45 percent on the poll say it is really a niche device. At the same time, 29 percent indicate that it is a topper, but not for him or her. Only a 19 percent see the device completely, while 6 percent do not know it very well.

Rebelwithoutaclue notes that it may be a camera monster, but that it may well be disappointing when it comes to further performance: “Then you buy a niche product especially for photography, but you can barely film 4k because the Snapdragon 888 doesn’t. long pulls…”

android 12

EricNL adds that it also often seems to be lacking in the update policy of the Korean tech giant: “It will undoubtedly be a great device for photography, but that cannot justify the 1800 euros. Not at all because Sony has a dubious reputation to say the least with the support of their devices. If you are lucky you will get an android version update and also 2 years of security updates. If you’re lucky….”

Moreover, Marc emailed us with a comment: “I would like to buy this phone, but I think € 1,799 for a phone that will be launched in December 2021 without Android 12, a lot of money. Sony does not excel in updates and certainly not in the shell that they throw over it themselves.” A good one: We could have created an answer option that is tied to the price of the device.

In short, confidence in the capabilities of the cameras and the impressive photography options is certainly there, but when it comes to the operation of the device itself and the plans for Android 12, many readers have questions. Partly because of this, the device is seen as expensive by many Androidworld readers.

Thanks for filling out the poll and see you next week!
