This is the state of Germany’s cable TV network

Vodafone has a special role among the German providers. Because only for Vodafone customers does the Internet come at home – as a rule – from the TV socket. Vodafone currently has reason to celebrate over the cable network. But the provider also makes a big admission.

Technology boss admits: Vodafone’s network was not up to the requirements

Vodafone’s head of technology strikes unusually honest tones: “We have one huge landline, capable of delivering very high data rates. But it was not stable enough at any time and in any place”, sums up Tanja Richter. During the pandemic, the Vodafone network sometimes went to its knees under particularly high demands, the group now admits.

High load on the networks, this was particularly the case during the pandemic due to streaming offers. But video conferences in the home office also require high data speeds and a stable connection from the network. Vodafone have now done their homework Richter continues (source: Vodafone).

This includes the other segmentation of the network with more nodes. So fewer households should sit on a network node. This reduces the risk of overloading and every household has it better chances of more available bandwidth. Vodafone carried out around 2,600 of these segmentations in the past financial year.

In addition, Vodafone continues to work on more fiberglass to be integrated into the existing TV cable network. This should in turn ensure higher download and upload speeds and improve latency. A current one shows that the plan worked landline test. Vodafone has secured first place here.

When the Internet dies, you should act:

Layoffs paint a bleak picture of Vodafone

In the evenings, for example, when many people are online and there is also time to watch TV, the network has to withstand particularly high demands. This is now better possible with the changes that have been made, which is also shown by a look at the problem cases. According to Vodafone, the number of customer complaints because of problems with the landline connection in the past year decreased by 15 percent.

A good signal, but the truth also includes: Vodafone Germany can’t help but jump in. The British group relies on Germany as its largest market. But so many German customers recently quit that it even pulled the overall profit of the parent company into the red.
