This is the console favorite of the Germans

PS5 and Xbox Series have been on the market for over two years. Time enough to switch to the new generation of consoles, right? A current Statista survey shows that PS5 or Xbox Series are still not the most common in German living rooms. A last-gen console has a firm grip on first place.

PS4 trumps new generation of consoles in Germany

The console bottleneck finally seems to be history. The new Xbox consoles have been available in stores for several months without any problems and the PS5 stocks are also slowly increasing. And the Nintendo Switch? Aside from the Corona crisis and the short bottleneck at the start of the OLED model, potential buyers also came to the handheld console almost continuously.

And yet the Nintendo Switch is not the most commonly found in German living rooms, but a console that is now over 9 years old: the PlayStation 4. According to a recent Statista survey, 53 percent of respondents the aged Sony console stand at home. Only 37 percent of households have a Nintendo Switch, while 25 percent of gamers have a Wii or Wii U. The PS5 has to be satisfied with 23 percent. But still better than the result of the Xbox Series: Apparently, it is so rare to find in German households that it didn’t even make it into the statistics chart.

Why are PS5 and Xbox Series so far behind?

There could be several reasons for this. For one was the PlayStation in Germany has always been much more popular than the Xbox. So it’s quite possible that many players who are interested in a next-gen console were slowed down by the PS5 bottleneck and have therefore not treated themselves to an upgrade to this day, since the Xbox Series is not a valid alternative for them.

In addition, the increased energy and gas prices as well as the strong inflation put a big damper on the buying spree of many players. After all, consoles are still a luxury item.
