DAZN changes its subscription model and increases the prices again

If you want to watch selected Bundesliga and Champions League games on DAZN, you will have to pay more than before. Because the streaming provider has changed its subscription model – and increased its prices both directly and indirectly.

The “DAZN Standard” subscription has been replaced by “DAZN Super Sports”. However, the new DAZN package contains neither the Bundesliga nor the Champions League. In return, it will cost five euros less than before, namely 24.99 euros instead of 29.99 euros as a monthly cancellable subscription. Annual subscription: EUR 19.99 per month.

However, new customers have to switch to the more expensive “Unlimited” if they want to stream games in the Bundesliga and the premier class – and that means they are far from seeing all games. However, nothing will change for users who previously had a “standard” subscription. You keep all functions and content, including the Bundesliga and Champions League.

DAZN prices increase like the negative headlines

The streaming service DAZN has been getting more and more expensive for two years. Logically, higher-quality content costs more money – such as the license rights for the Bundesliga and Champions League. But how long should the allocation to the subscribers work?

Especially since DAZN recently even had to face a lawsuit from consumer advocates after a very drastic price adjustment. And just recently, the district court in Munich ruled that several clauses in the DAZN terms of use are invalid.

It is doubtful whether the change in the subscription structure, which has been in effect since July 4, 2023, can reverse the negative media trend. Because this increases the price for the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League at DAZN via an (admittedly wide open) back door.

New DAZN prices – also for the Bundesliga

Take the most popular formats, maneuver them into the most expensive subscription category and disguise everything with reduced prices in the other packages – the indirect price increase is done.

That’s exactly what DAZN did. Because most recently, the selected DAZN games in the Bundesliga and the Champions League were still part of the middle “standard” subscription, which is now called “DAZN Super Sports”, but isn’t really great.

Although the annual subscription to “DAZN Super Sports” now costs EUR 19.99 per month instead of EUR 24.99, the offer is much less attractive without the Bundesliga and Champions League. The third package, “DAZN World”, costs EUR 6.99 per month for an annual subscription and EUR 9.99 for a monthly subscription.

New customers who would like to have a DAZN variant with the Bundesliga and Champions League must now book “DAZN Unlimited”, which still costs EUR 29.99 per month for an annual subscription and EUR 44.99 for a monthly subscription instead of EUR 39.99. This means that Bundesliga and Champions League games on DAZN are now five euros more expensive, both directly and indirectly.

“DAZN Unlimited” with Bundesliga and Champions League

The Bundesliga and Champions League have migrated to the premium category. If you want to stream the games on DAZN, you need “DAZN Unlimited”, which includes the following sports, leagues and game days:

  • Bundesliga (men): Friday and Sunday games
  • Bundesliga (Women): All matches
  • Champions League (men): 121 games and conference
  • Champions League (Women): All matches
  • European football: LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1
  • US sports: NFL, NBA and NCAA
  • Martial Arts: Boxing and UFC
  • International sports: darts, handball and tennis
  • Sports channels: Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Sportdigital TV and more

Do you already have a DAZN subscription with Bundesliga and Champions League? Lucky (at least for now), because the changes initially only apply to new subscribers. To do this, you must “Keep your current subscription active” as stated on the DAZN website is called.
