This city is Germany’s top address for e-mobilists

If you drive an e-car, you need a good charging infrastructure. A private wall box is also helpful, but you have to charge it when you are on the go. A comparison now clarifies in which German city e-car drivers have drawn the best lot.

E-car drivers don’t have it easy at the moment. The expensive electricity is gradually eating up the previous cost advantage that electric cars actually have over combustion engines. In addition, there is still the difficult search for a charging station, while the nearest gas station for diesel and petrol engines is usually just around the corner. While the number of registrations for e-cars is increasing, the charging infrastructure still does not seem to be able to keep up.

Traveling by e-car: things are looking rosy in Düsseldorf

But where does it look particularly good, where particularly bad? That answers this question Voucher portal Savoo. There you have 24 major German cities compared: Attention was paid to the number of local charging stations and the proportion of those that are publicly accessible. The local charging prices also played a role and the total costs for a battery charge.

Lease an e-car and collect an environmental bonus

Düsseldorf secured first place in the evaluation. With 125 public charging stations out of 212 in total and low charging costs, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia takes the top spot. Savoo awards a rating of 7.23 points. At a low average price of 38 cents per kWh, Düsseldorf e-car drivers pay just 19 euros to charge a 50 kWh battery.

Hamburg and Hanover follow closely behind in second and third place. In both major cities, the expansion of the charging stations is already further than in Düsseldorf. Hamburg has the most public charging stations, while Hanover has the largest share of public charging stations in the total number. However, electricity is slightly more expensive in both cases at 39 cents, which leads to devaluation.

The more expensive the electricity, the smaller the cost advantage of the e-car in the end:

Rhine duel lost: E-car drivers should better avoid Cologne

Not surprisingly, most of the charging stations are in Berlin. However, the higher prices of an average of 43 cents/kWh push the capital up to 15th place. Interestingly, the first and last places in Germany are geographically close together. According to Savoo, the worst city for e-car drivers is Cologne. Together with Frankfurt am Main, the highest electricity prices have to be paid at the charging station in Cologne.

For the comparison Savoo takes however well-intentioned averages. Many providers are already increasing their electricity prices, both for private households and for charging stations that can be used by the public.
