The publisher does not regret the cases surrounding the next-gen update of Control -apkrig

In light of the problems regarding the next-gen update for Horizon Forbidden West, which we informed you about in detail over the weekend, there is a comment on a very similar case that the successful game Control went through. As you will recall, only those who purchase the so-called ultimate edition are entitled to an improved version for the new generation of consoles, which has caused a huge wave of resentment from players. This meant that owners of the original 2019 version would have to buy Control again if they wanted to enjoy this good thing in better graphics on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series, and the strong insistence on 505 Games did not change that. In not very clear statements, it was said that this was not technically possible, and there was also talk that if all the owners of the original version got the next-gen update for free, players with more expensive editions or season passes could feel impoverished.

An oil on the PS Store then added fuel to the fire, thanks to which some players automatically promoted standard edition to the ultimate, which would entitle the owner to the subsequent application of the next-gen update for free, but regardless of the correction of this error, players debated what technical problems 505 Games representatives actually talked about and that the whole decision is clearly motivated only by money. Half a year later, after the February release of the postponed next-gen update, the publisher therefore returns to the described case and does not seem to regret it too much. In an interview with Games Industry magazine, 505 Games President Neil Ralley said that every transition from one generation to the next is very demanding and that the requirements for so-called Smart Delivery – which Ralley borrows from Microsoft as a general term for issuing next-gen updates – have so far the gaming industry has never faced.

“In connection with the game Control, we have made certain decisions that have limited the way Smart Delivery is implemented for the next-gen version. At the time, it was the right decision, albeit someone [z majitelů jiných verzí] limited, ”says Ralley. He then admits that it was no longer possible to back away from the pre-set plan and reorganize the way the ultimate edition was developed so that there was a reasonable and fair way to deliver the next-gen update. “We’ve done well as publishers and we’ve communicated well enough to the audience,” Ralley asks, answering for himself. “Maybe not. But we did our best to satisfy consumers, “says the president of 505 Games. It also suggests that they have learned from the whole case and will want to release next-gen updates more easily in the future, as evidenced by Ghostrunner and the racing game Assetto Corsa, which will be updated at the end of September, respectively. early next year. And probably without any surprises – completely free of charge.

However, the strangeness of the whole Control case is underlined by the fact that in Microsoft and Sony digital stores it is still possible to purchase the standard edition without the possibility of upgrading it to the Xbox Series, resp. However, the PlayStation 5, which is now the result of discount promotions, is more expensive than the ultimate with the next-gen update. Although it is unlikely that players would not want to take advantage of the offer, unnecessary confusion can undoubtedly occur and the publisher’s approach is not entirely correct if they are to pay the words of trying to do everything better in the future. In other words, when it comes to the people of the 505 Games about the welfare of players, the standard edition should also be discounted to make it absolutely demonstrable that it is worse in content or technology than the currently cheaper product.
