The next Battlefield is to be even more focused on Vortex Specialists

Yesterday, we informed you in detail about the changes that Electronic Arts plans to make as part of the Battlefield series. The brand is to serve as a name for a whole universe of interconnected titles, which will be developed by more studios. Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella has recently taken over supervision of Battlefield, and EA agrees that he will look for new ways to monetize and process future titles. Hand in hand with this information comes other news from insider Tom Henderson, who got clues from his sources of what the next Battlefield might look like, and fans are definitely not thrilled with the vision presented.

Henderson claims on his Twitter that the brand turns to the style of so-called hero shooters – ie shooters in which heroes their irreplaceable role and their choice is critical to the coming match. If you’ve played the current Battlefield 2042, then you’re probably right now that these heroes are supposed to be Specialists who have replaced traditional classes of soldiers, as we’ve been used to in the past. “Another Battlefield is a bit like a hero shooter – Specialists will not be removed, but rather expanded,” says the insider. He also adds that Battlefield 2042 was supposed to take the first step towards a rebirth in this genre, but the vision was eventually changed in this part.

Henderson, of course, points out that everyone should take these reports with a great deal of attention – they are not official reports – but given the credibility of their resources and the plans described in the introduction, everything is relatively clear, according to Henderson. But as mentioned above, fans who are used to perceiving the insider’s messages very specifically are not at all satisfied with where Battlefield might turn. The criticism that the players sent towards DICE for the Specialists before the release of the game certainly cannot stand aside, and unfortunately nothing has changed even after its release. The versatility that individual soldiers offer blurs almost all the differences that one special ability may not be able to adequately balance.

There are not many comments under Tom Henderson’s tweets, yet they are overwhelmingly negative and most often talk about the death of the series as such. However, there is some hope for those who do not like the possible new vision of Battlefield, according to EA, who want more games and probably more genres. A turn, not unlike games like Overwatch or Team Fortress, could be just one of them many titles on which Battlefield would be based, and there will probably be room for something more traditional. In addition, the question remains, of course, how strongly the developers would like to apply the system of heroes to the game, because the result would not have to be so far from what the mix of the last few parts of the series would offer. Soldiers with unique abilities divided into classes, although dependent on slightly different conditions for representation in a team or unit, would not have to move too far from the standard form, but we will be clear only after a possible announcement or official indication of future plans.
