Survival hit wants 50 euros so you can continue playing

Featuring crafting and dinos, Ark: Surival Evolved has had tremendous success on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. Now, however, the developers are announcing major changes and simply asking the biggest fans to pay again. They are not at all enthusiastic about it.

Ark: Surival Evolved is shutting down the servers

Ark: Survival Evolved started as Early Access and is now one of the biggest survival games on Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A sequel to the dinosaur adventure is also in the works and should actually be released in 2023. However, developer Studio Wildcard has now announced the game to the end of 2024 to move.

In order to sweeten the waiting time for the fans, the developer also announces a remaster of the first part. The game is supposed to Unreal Engine 5 be transferred and then be released for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 at the end of August 2023. So only good news? Unfortunately it goes further.

When the remaster Ark: Survival Ascended comes out, the official servers of the original will be shut down. The survival game can only be played in single player or on private and community servers. For official servers you need the remaster and that costs a whopping 50 euros for PC and Xbox. However, the successor Ark 2 is also included, even if the game is still more than a year away (source: Studio wild card).

Players also have to pay again for DLCs

A year after the release of Ark: Survival Ascended, the games will also be offered separately. PS5 players can also buy the remaster directly for 40 euros. However, this does not yet include the DLCs that have been released for Ark: Survival Evolved. Both expansions will be released separately from the main game and on all platforms cost 20 euros each. Of course, the fans are now a bit confused as to why, in the worst case, they have to spend 90 euros to play a game that they have already paid for.

Most of the fan complaints revolve around the fact that Studio Wildcard is now the most loyal player ask to checkout againto continue playing a prettied version of Ark: Survival Evolved. The “Ultimate Value Bundle” with Ark 2 is only a small consolation. After all, the release is at best over a year away.
