Set Spotify as an alarm clock on your iPhone

If you want to set a nice song to wake up to, it is very easy on your iPhone. At least, if you have music on your iPhone or if you have Apple Music.

Don’t have Apple Music but you do have Spotify? Then we have bad news, as standard it is not possible to set the music service as an alarm clock. Still, there is a way to set Spotify as an alarm clock on your iPhone. We explain how to do this.

Music Alarm Clock Pro

Of course you need a free account with Spotify, but there is something else. You also have to use a special app. There are several apps for this, but many require a monthly fee. The app Music Alarm Clock Pro is a bit more difficult to set up, but it only costs a few euros once.

Once you have installed the app, start it. Tap the plus sign at the top right to set your Spotify alarm clock on your iPhone. Set a time and tap ‘Music’. Choose ‘Song’ and connect your (free) Spotify account to the app. Then you can search for a song title and set it as an alarm clock. Once you have done that, set the rest of the alarm clock. So choose a day and time. With ‘Test alarm’ you can try out the alarm.

The app does have a few minor quirks. For example, you have to make sure you have the ringer switch (the mute switch on the side of your iPhone) turned on. Of course you have to allow notifications from the app if you get this question. In addition, you have to lock the iPhone when you go to sleep, otherwise your Spotify alarm will only go off for a short time.

Also important: if you have an Apple Watch, you have to do something else. Open the Watch app on your iPhone. Tap “Notifications” and scroll down. Turn off the “Music Alarm” slider under “Match iPhone notifications from.”
