Ready for summer? Now your smartphone!

Many people have already booked their holiday for the coming summer and are already looking forward to it. Enjoy the sun with your family, loved one or friends. In your mind you are all set, but is your smartphone too? With these tips, your phone will also have a happy holiday.

Smartphone summer-proof?

We estimate that there is a good chance that you will still want to enjoy your smartphone after your holiday. Sometimes an accident is in a small corner and during the summer (vacation) the chance of this is perhaps even greater. Protect your smartphone against the summer with these handy tips.

Heat

Your smartphone can take quite a bit, but it can generally handle direct heat quite poorly. Yet telephones are more often in the sun than is actually desirable. Just think, for example, of the moment you put your smartphone on your towel at the pool, neatly in the shade. But after half an hour the sun has turned a bit and your piece of technology is full of the hot Spanish sun. Not only is direct sunlight bad for your phone, damage can also occur if you leave your smartphone in a warm room. For example, if your phone is left in a locked car, which is parked in the sun.

Your battery is most at risk with heat. Just like humans, smartphones have a sort of ideal temperature at which they function best. When your smartphone gets too hot, the battery can expand and therefore perform poorly. In the worst case, the battery expands due to the heat and can bend the housing. So try to protect your phone against high temperatures as much as possible.

Sun, sea and beach

We take our phone everywhere with us these days, including to the beach. We have already discussed the danger of the heat of the sun above, but at the beach there are more dangers for your digital friend. Some of the mobile phones are now water resistant, but not all of them. So be careful around water. This applies not only to the sea, but also to the swimming pool.

If your phone does fall into the water or is still in your pocket when you jump into the water, try to put your phone in uncooked rice as soon as possible. The rice will then absorb the moisture from your phone. It is also important that if it has come into contact with salt water, for example from the sea, it is first rinsed with clean water so that the salt can be washed away.

Besides the water on the beach, there is another danger for your phone, which is sand. When you come to your hotel room in the evening, you probably still have sand in there somewhere. The same is actually true for your phone. The sand gets into the USB and headphone jacks and can cause them to malfunction. In addition, grains of sand can scratch your screen. That’s why it’s a good idea to protect your phone while on vacation with a case. This way you keep sand and (partly water) away from your precious gadget. It is also wise to protect your earplugs against sand! Sand in your ears can cause hearing damage! Cases for smartphones are not expensive anymore these days. For example, you can score cheap covers at GSMpunt and Smartphone Covers.

Theft

The places where many tourists are present are always popular locations for pickpockets. Therefore, make sure that you store your valuables (in addition to your smartphone, for example, your wallet and passport). Preferably as close to your body as possible, so that you notice when a pickpocket is trying to roll over your belongings. The back pocket of a pair of trousers is perhaps the easiest target for pickpockets. Therefore, try to carry your belongings as much as possible on the front of your body, because you have a view of that.

Still, having your smartphone in sight is sometimes not enough, for example on terraces. Many people put their smartphone (but also wallet) on the table when they are sitting on a terrace. Pickpockets respond to this by showing a flyer or folder at the table. They place these over the smartphone so that it is hidden from view of the owner. When the pickpocket is gone later and you want to send an app to you, your smartphone also appears to have disappeared.

Netflix

After a day in the full sun, you can feel like relaxing in your hotel room in the evening. But often you have to rely on the television of the hotel, on which many foreign channels can be found. Today most hotels offer wireless internet and most televisions have an HDMI connection. If you – or one of your travel companions – have a Netflix account, you can stream your favorite series with a Chromecast, even on the Spanish Costa.
