‘My daughter had turned all the bicycle valves out of the tires at school’

When the school calls, eighty scenarios flash through your mind, none of them good. Fortunately, disaster is not always the case. As with Natascha (42) mother of Charley (7).

“With a pounding heart I answered when Charley’s teacher called. She reassured me: no, nothing serious had happened to Charley, but she had been naughty. As it turned out: the day before, my four-year-old daughter, together with two classmates, had removed all bicycle valves from the tires and put them in her jacket pocket.

I know about bicycle

Suddenly I remembered the grumbling in the schoolyard because there were so many deflated tires. I had never made the link with my own child. The teacher was also stunned, normally Charley was just so good. She said she gave Charley a good sermon and had a drawing made to learn from it. At home came the tears and the regret. We are now laughing about it and the drawing of the little bicycle vandal adorns her photo album.”
