8 x fun King’s Day games to do at home

After two years we can go out again on King’s Day. Don’t feel like wandering around a free market? You can just play these fun King’s Day games from home or garden.

A board game is always fun, but King’s Day is of course especially suitable for typical Old Dutch games. Play them the old-fashioned way or with a modern twist. We list the best King’s Day games for you:

tin cans

Collect some cans and decorate them with paper and stickers. Write different numbers on it – the dots – and stack the cans on top of each other. If you have a peppermint tin with the Royal Family on it, put it on top. Throw a ball to the tower from a considerable distance: who gets all the cans on the ground?

Royal Race

Think: sack races, but in orange atmospheres. Grab the dress up box and turn your kids into king, queen and princesses. Then set out a course in your backyard or on the street with pawns or bottles that you fill with water. Divide the children into two groups and let them take turns jumping slalom in a jute bag. The group that is fastest and has not hit the obstacles gets to cheer.

shuffleboard

Aim well and have a feel for the right speed – you don’t need more skills in shuffleboard. Grab that old shuffleboard from the attic and see who scores the most points.

snacking

We used to do it with biscuits, now you stretch a line in your garden and hang various sweets on it. It is the task of the children to eat as many bacon, licorice and hearts as possible, blindfolded and with their hands behind their backs. Or these orange cakes, which make the game extra royal.

treasure hunting

A fun game for anyone who has a sandbox in the garden. Put a few King’s Day treats (such as orange mini muffins or donuts) in a microwave box and dig them under the sand. Your children will use shovels to look for them: who will find the King’s Treasure first? Of course there is enough in it for everyone.

nail shit

Line up a number of empty bottles, tie a piece of string around your child’s waist and hang a nail from it. In a squatting position, he must then try to get the nail into the bottle – without laughing. A challenge, because you can bet that the name of this game will give him the giggles.

King prick

Do you remember Donkey Prick from the past? Make it a King’s Day game by cutting Willem Alexander – with crown – from a piece of cardboard instead of a donkey.

Have your children blindfold a prick object with a string on the cardboard: who manages to get closest to the crown and is the winner? To make it extra difficult, let the children spin around in circles first.

orange bingo

Nope, bingo is really not just a game for care homes. You can also play it fun with the whole family and make it a King’s Day variant. How? Very simple: instead of numbers you play the game with Máxima, Beatrix, the carriage, orange glasses and many more nice pictures that you can download here.
