Own Game of Thrones: Disney + receives strong fantasy hit

The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones are getting new series later this year. Disney now also wants to bring a strong fantasy competitor to its own streaming service. A popular book series gets a second chance.

Disney+ brings competition to Game of Thrones

Fantasy fans don’t have to fear a lack of new series in the near future. The Games of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and the Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are only a few weeks away. Also Disney+ wants a slice of the fantasy pie. The streaming service is currently working on an adaptation of the Eragon saga (source: Variety).

Christopher Paolini, author of the four-book series, is also said to be co-writing the series – welcome news. After all, has a new series around the dragon rider Eragon and his dragon lady Saphira to make amends. A first film adaptation from 2006 not only received consistently bad reviews from critics, but also messed it up with fans by changing the story of the books for the worse in many places.

Book author confirms new Eragon series

Even years after the horrific film adaptation and the release of the final book in the saga in 2011, fans have never stopped for a second chance to fight for Eragon. Efforts on social media may have contributed to Disney now giving the franchise a series. Paolini has now confirmed the existence of the series on Twitter. In doing so, he also expresses his appreciation for the loyal Eragon fans:

The Eragon saga is set in the fantasy world of Alagaësia, ruled by the tyrant Galbatorix. The farm boy Eragon encounters a blue egg at the beginning of the series, from which also promptly the dragon Saphira hatches. From that moment on their adventure together begins, which takes them across the country to help the forces of good to victory as a dragon and rider. In addition to a hopefully finally well-done series, that also calls for a game adaptation.
