‘Once home he collapsed on the couch’

When you don’t feel like discussions or if your child was looking forward to his outing, you sometimes do something that you as a parent are not so proud of.

Lucie (33), mother of Hillie (14) and Luke (8).

“For weeks at home it was all about nothing but the game of Róman, the most popular boy in the class. They would go trampolining, laser tag, and the Mac. Luuk felt special that he was invited as one of the five boys.

hungover man

The night before he wanted to go to bed early because he had to be fit. But on the morning itself, I found a sluggish little man on the couch. Red cheeks, snotty and almost 38 degrees fever. This wasn’t going to be him. When I told him that, he became so sad that I couldn’t bring myself to keep him at home.

“I couldn’t bring myself to keep him at home”

I ended up doing something I’m not proud of. Normally I am anti pills, but for this time I gave him 500 mg of paracetamol. Half an hour later, Luke recovered. I told Roman’s mother to keep an eye on him. Luke had a great day. But once back home, he collapsed and spent the rest of the week hanging on the couch with the flu. I felt quite guilty.”

Must from the doctor

Masja (30), mother of Thijs (7) and Julian (2).

“Oh yes, it’s winter and yes, my son walks without socks or goes to school in a short-sleeved shirt. I know it’s too cold for summer clothes at minus two, but the kid is seven and very stubborn. And I don’t feel like arguing anymore. So when I am approached again by other mothers in the schoolyard because they think Thijs is dressed too coldly, I simply say that the doctor does not allow him to wear socks. Doesn’t make sense either, but I’m rid of the nagging.”
