Nintendo stops free service after 3 months

Since February, fans have been able to enjoy a free Pokémon sound library – but that’s over now. Without giving a reason, Nintendo decided to discontinue the service.

Short fun: Nintendo takes free Pokémon sound library offline

When it comes to exploiting their intellectual property, Nintendo doesn’t take a joke. Mod projects, fan remakes and other content based on the group’s brands are repeatedly discontinued after those responsible receive mail from Nintendo’s lawyers.

It was all the more gratifying that Nintendo launched a website in February that allowed media professionals to Download sounds and music from the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl games for freewhich they were legally allowed to use to create content – subject to certain conditions, of course.

But the joy about this nice offer from Nintendo was short-lived. As of today, the website is no longer accessible. Instead, there is only an error message to see:

There is no official statement from Nintendo as to why they decided to take this step. However, shortly before the shutdown, users were presented with the following text on the page:

“We will service on May 31, 2022 at 9am UTC switch off. After this date, you will not be able to stream or download the sound data.

As for the already downloaded sound data, you can continue to use within the terms of use and policies. You can visit this website to view the terms of use and policies after the closure of Pokémon DP Sound Library. Please make sure that you follow the current terms of use and guidelines when using the sound data.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported us since the launch of the service.”

Pre-order Pokémon Crimson for the Switch on Amazon

The Pokémon series will start its ninth generation this year – and the first gameplay from the upcoming games can already be seen:

That was in the Pokemon Sound Library

Website users could 149 different sound files Download and use from the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl games. Among them were individual sound snippets as well as complete pieces of music (source: IGN).

However, YouTubers and streamers who downloaded the sound library before the shutdown can breathe a sigh of relief. All tracks on the site may continue to be usedas long as the relevant terms of use are observed.

For some, however, that could be a problem. As our screenshot shows, the guidelines are not available for inspection on the website. It is quite possible that German users will have to use a VPN to access the information.
