Netflix is going to drastically change its movie strategy

To attract more subscribers, Netflix has a new strategy for movies, which isn’t exactly good news for quality fans.

Things are not going so well at Netflix and that is reason for the streaming giant to plan a major change. Currently, the largest streaming service is mainly about quantity over quality. In the future, both quantity and quality seem to be irrelevant. It will soon be all about eyeballs.

Netflix’s Drastic New Movies Strategy

With the decline in Netflix subscriptions, the streaming service will adopt a new strategy: ‘Bigger, better, fewer’. Sources tell Hollywood Reporter that there will be far fewer new Originals coming out in the near future. But those Netflix movies need to be bigger and better than before.

In other words, Netflix will produce fewer films, but the flicks that come out will be bigger. Now that can mean different things in the movie world. Grand can mean epic, or extra compelling. But in the case of Netflix, this mainly means: pumping a lot of money into it.

And Netflix’s money rarely goes to a prominent director or brilliant writer. Don’t get me wrong, something surprising comes out on the service regularly. But by the “bigger, better, fewer” strategy, Netflix is definitely aiming at making 13-in-a-dozen blockbuster movies.

Instead of well-written, brilliantly acted, beautifully shot pieces of art, the streaming service wants to appeal to the masses. And the masses love Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson or Adam Sandler movies. In short, while it is undoubtedly a sound financial decision for Netflix to release mainstream pulp, the movie lover must be especially disappointed by this decision.
