New Need for Speed takes a completely different tack

The new Need for Speed that may be released this year is a little different from what we’ve seen so far.

Anyone who knows the history of Need for Speed knows that the franchise is not afraid to try something different. For example, Underground was revolutionary compared to the earlier parts of the games. Eventually this became the most favorite part and later the successful successor Underground 2. Need for Speed never dared an Underground 3, unfortunately.

Also with the new NFS that may appear this year, developer Criterion is taking a different tack. So says game journalist Jeff Grubb. According to him, NFS takes a different approach in the latest installment. He talks about a game with photorealism, combined with anime elements. Sounds different. No idea how crazy or how good this will feel in practice.

He also says that the game takes place in a fictional city based on Chicago. This city would be called Lake Shore City. Given these hard-hitting rumours, an announcement doesn’t seem far away from us. Especially if this new Need for Speed has to be released this year.

In 2021, the franchise took a year off without a release. The last title is Need for Speed: Heat which we also wrote a review of. (via VGC)
