New Disney flop? Sequel to legendary film series disappoints critics

A new Indiana Jones film will be released next June, 15 years after the last film. However, initial reviews for Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny are modest. Expects fans a similar debacle as with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

15 years later: Indiana Jones is back in cinemas

Hollwood legend Harrison Ford may be in his 80s now, but that doesn’t stop the actor from cracking down on the whip again as cult archaeologist Indiana Jones.

Disney has spent a lot of money on the triumphant return. More than $300 million is said to have devoured the adventure film. Which makes Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny one of the most expensive films of all time.

That’s what the critics are saying about the new Indiana Jones film

That doesn’t impress the critics very much. Actually rate only 52 percent of all reviews the summer blockbuster is currently positive. Judging by 31 reviews Rotten Tomatoes.

Some critic voices at a glance:

“Needs are met here that have less to do with the story and more to do with fanning the fan base and hitting profit targets.” (Source: Rolling Stone)

“There’s so much car chases… that the film seems to be held together with flimsy plot scraps, rather than the other way around. Worse, they are so heavily CGIed that they appear little exciting or appealing.” (Source: Time Magazine)

“It’s a big, bombastic film that plays out but never brings much joy.” (Source: Hollywood reporters)

For comparison: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has a positive score of 77 percent. This film is considered by many fans as real accident.

Of course, the user score is much more important than the critic score. But we have to be patient for a while, because Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny will not be officially released until June 29, 2023 in Germany and one day later in the USA.
