Multiple malware apps discovered in Samsung Galaxy Store

Some time ago, Huawei was negatively in the news about malicious apps in the AppGallery. In the Samsung Galaxy Store, where you can download applications, malware apps have also surfaced, pretending to be something else.

Malicious apps in Samsung Galaxy Store

On Samsung devices, you can’t just use the Google Play Store to download apps. You can also go to the Samsung Galaxy Store, formerly Galaxy Apps. The platform is now less well in the news, because several applications have been discovered that pretend to be different than what they actually do. It concerns at least five malware apps that are offered in the Galaxy Store. Apparently they have gone undetected by Samsung’s antivirus software. Google’s own Play Services software does intervene in various apps to alert the user to the dangers.

Some applications require far more permissions than they need. For example, there is an app that wants to have direct access to the entire contact list. This concerns the Showbox app, with which you can stream films and series according to the information. A security researcher explains that the apps allow malicious data to be downloaded and installed on a smartphone.
