Moto G 4G (2nd generation)

After the first generation of the Moto G appeared in 2013, it was the turn of the second generation of the model series just under a year later. There were several improvements and optimizations, resulting in the Moto G (2nd generation) and the Moto G 4G (2nd generation). We discuss that smartphone today in ‘The forgotten smartphone’.

Moto G 4G (2nd generation)

Both a 3G and a 4G version of the Moto G appeared. That was also the case for the second generation Moto G. There were a few differences between the Moto G (2nd generation) and the Moto G 4G. A slightly larger battery for the 4G model, as well as a slightly higher weight and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop straight out of the box. The 3G model first hit the market with Android 4.4 KitKat; not very surprising, because that model appeared in the shops six months earlier. We discussed the Moto G 4G in 2015 in the Moto G 4G (2nd generation) review.

The Moto G (2nd generation) was characterized by a high-resolution screen and excellent hardware. The Moto G devices were really released as price fighters at the time. The Moto G (2nd generation) also proved that. The smartphone featured a 5.0 inch IPS LCD display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Motorola had equipped the affordable smartphone with a Snapdragon 400 chipset from Qualcomm. This was a quad-core processor with a computing power of four times 1.2 GHz. In addition, the Moto G (2nd generation) was equipped with 1GB of RAM. The internal memory was 8GB and could be expanded with a memory card. On the front was a 2 megapixel front camera, on the back an 8 megapixel camera. It was far from time for double (or just three or four) cameras. As you would expect from a smartphone, there was also WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and an FM radio. The battery capacity of the 4G model was 2390 mAh. The 3G version came on the market with a 2070 mAh battery.

In the reviews, the device was labeled very well. The working memory could have been just a little more. The build quality was good, the processor was able to handle the tasks well and the stereo speakers could also count on appreciation. The Moto G 4G (2nd generation) came on the market in 2015 for a price of 220 euros.

Moto G 4G summarized in 3 points:

  • 3G and 4G version
