iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 Pro screen: can you spot the difference?

The iPhone 13 Pro has a better screen than the regular iPhone 13. But how big is the difference in practice? We’ve looked it up for you.

Read on after the ad.

Comparison screen of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro

Both the iPhone 13 (mini) and the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) have a better OLED screen than last year. The normal model has made a big step in terms of brightness from 625 to 800 nits. This makes the screen easier to read when you walk in the sun. The iPhone 12 Pro already had such a display last year and the 13 Pro now even reaches 1000 nits.

Do you see that difference? Sometimes. Indoors, the screen is of course not set to the maximum brightness for most people. In that scenario, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro look alike. That changes when you go outside on a nice day. Then you can see that the Pro can be a little brighter, especially when the sun shows itself.

Don’t get us wrong: the display of the iPhone 13 also remains easy to read in all circumstances. The Pro model is just a bit nicer and retains its contrast better when there is a lot of ambient light. However, we don’t see any reason to spend more money. ProMotion is.

The big difference between the screen of the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro is ProMotion. This technique allows the Pro to increase its refresh rate to 120 frames per second. When you scroll through a website, the text remains legible and when you play suitable video games, it looks very smooth. Animations in iOS 15 are also smoother than before. If you view a static image, such as your home screen, the Pro automatically switches back to 10 frames per count. This saves battery juice.

The regular iPhone 13 refreshes images 60 times per second in any scenario. If you put the smartphones next to each other, you can immediately see the difference. The normal 13 then seems to stutter a bit. Sure, it’s fine to work with, but once you see ProMotion in action, you’ll probably never want to go back. Let that be a warning if you want to save money: don’t look at the iPhone 13 Pro screen in the store!
