Mac update will cause trouble for popular app

If you use a Mac, you should be more careful with the future system update to macOS 12.3. The developers of the popular file hosting service Dropbox are now warning of incompatibilities in advance.

This week macOS 12.2 was released, this system version can still be used with Dropbox without any problems, but it is the upcoming one and announced by Apple shortly afterwards macOS 12.3, which causes problems.

macOS 12.3: Dropbox warns of difficulties with the update

The operators of Dropbox are currently providing information about this with an e-mail or on their own website (source: Dropbox via AppleInsider). After the update to macOS 12.3, which is in development at Apple Third-party apps no longer open online files directly from Dropbox. Means: All files with the small cloud symbol must first be downloaded and thus transported to the local storage before they can be accessed – annoying.

Dropbox provides a small guide for this:

1. Open your Dropbox folder in Finder.
2. Double-click the file you want to open.
3. The file will be downloaded to your Dropbox folder and opened in a new window.

Another alternative: users can provide an online file for third-party applications. This can be done as follows:

1. Open your Dropbox folder in Finder.
2. Right-click the file you want to make available.
3.Click Make Available Offline.
4. The file will be downloaded to your Dropbox folder and can be opened with any third-party program.

As Dropbox confirms, they are currently working on one Troubleshooting. It should be available sometime in March. With a bit of luck, this will happen before the release of macOS 12.3 Monterey. After all, the first beta version of macOS 12.3 was released a few days ago together with the beta of iOS 15.4.
