This reboot of a popular Marvel superhero movie didn’t go over well

While the third interpretation of this hero did very well, the second struggled. You can find out why this is so here.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro tells again of an adventure about the friendly neighborhood spider. Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has assumed his identity as the superhero Spider-Man and fights crime on behalf of New York. He also finishes school and is a good friend to Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). But when Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), who is battered by life, becomes Electro in an accident and wants revenge on the people, Peter has to intervene. As if that weren’t enough, Peter’s childhood friend and Osborn heir Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) also shows up, and soon Peter realizes that he, too, is being driven by a dark force. You can have the superhero adventure on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 8:15 p.m. on NITRO watch, or alternatively in a streaming subscription Disney+.

Many different Spider-Man

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature their contribution to Spider-Man in late 2021 “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, the Spider’s third and, for the time being, final solo film, the character’s success wasn’t always guaranteed. In 2002, the horror film director Sam Raimi took part in the first respected cinematic implementation of the comic hero “Spider Man” brought to the canvas. Back then, it starred Tobey Maguire and the concept of the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t exist yet. The film was so well received that it got two sequels and is loved by many fans to this day. A fourth film was planned, but due to various circumstances, a fourth film never materialized.

Instead, the Sony film studio had other plans, they wanted to reboot the series, i.e. set it up again. With Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man and an ambitious plan for three films and a spin-off about the antagonist group the Sinister Six, 2012 took off “The Amazing Spider-Man”. It was well received by viewers and the box office, but the 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro took over. It wanted to suddenly that’s what the critics felt. Despite high box office result the planned third part of the new trilogy has never followed. But this was not only due to the moderate to negative reactions of the audience. It was mainly due to the legal dispute over the trademark. Because Marvel wanted to have his character back, but Sony still partially owned the rights. It was agreed that the character would appear in Marvel’s films and let Sony share the profits.

One movie, three Spider-Man

In the third of Marvel’s Spider-Man films, starring Tom Holland as the spider, the multiverse opened up an unprecedented opportunity. The current and previous Spider-Man have been able to appear in a film together without it breaking the continuity of their own films. So Sony also had the opportunity to bring Andrew Garfield back after all the requirements. Especially fans of the older series hoped and speculated before the release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”that they would see their old heroes again on screen, and indeed they did. After Andrew Garfield’s re-appearance as Spider-Man, the desire to complete his trilogy grew even greater on social media.
