You often leave the iPhone in your pocket during a dinner or an evening of gaming. But when the smartphone does appear, it is often placed upside down on the table.

Usually you do this so as not to be disturbed by any notifications you get. It is often even thought that you may have something to hide. But did you know that there’s a really good reason to put your iPhone screen down?

Screen Down: Better for your iPhone

This saves you a bit of battery. If you place the iPhone with the screen up on the table and you receive a notification, the screen will light up briefly. This of course costs extra power from the battery.

When you put the iPhone upside down, the screen goes completely off, even if a notification comes in. Even if you have an iPhone 14 Pro (Max) with an always-on screen, the entire screen will go black.

It is of course always nice to do even longer with your battery. It won’t matter much. But every little bit helps, right? For example, are you going to take a shower or are you going to sit at the table? Then it is indeed better to put the smartphone upside down. And another advantage: you immediately have a good answer if someone asks if you have something to hide when you put the iPhone with the screen down.

Always turn off notifications on the Lock screen

By the way, you can set the screen of your iPhone to never light up when you receive a notification. You do this by following the steps below.

• Open the ‘Settings’ app;
• Choose the option ‘Notifications’;
• Scroll down and under ‘Notification style’ choose the app whose notifications you want to turn off;
• Under notifications, uncheck the option ‘Access screen’.
