It’s that easy to get your storage space back

Some time ago, Samsung introduced a new feature that gives you more RAM but costs storage space at the same time. This feature has been expanded again and again, but is now being given an important property that should have been there from the start.

Samsung phones with Android 13: Turn off RAM Plus

RAM Plus were introduced by Samsung with One UI 4.1. With this function, internal memory is nibbled off and made available as virtual main memory. Initially, 4 GB was drawn in by default. Later, the option was added that you can choose between 2, 4, 6 and 8 GB of RAM. However, the feature could not be switched off completely, so that you could not always use at least 2 GB of internal memory. This is the end of Android 13 and One UI 5.0.

Once you have Android 13 and One UI 5.0 installed on your Samsung phone, you can switch off the feature under Settings, Battery and device maintenance, Memory and then RAM Plus. You then get back the 2, 4, 6, or 8 GB of RAM that was held back as virtual memory as your storage space.

Especially with cheap Samsung cell phones, where there is not that much internal memory, it can get tight if RAM Plus still branches off something. The fact that the function could not be switched off right from the start was a major disadvantage. But this will be eliminated with Android 13.

Android 13 appears for many smartphones

Android 13 is currently only available for the Galaxy S22 smartphones. In the coming weeks and months, however, almost 50 other models will be supplied with it. At the latest then you can decide whether you want to release the storage space. Since you can toggle the feature on and off, you’ll just have to experiment with what works better for you. A little more RAM can also be useful. But if you don’t feel anything from it, then you shouldn’t give up the memory pointlessly.
