Instagram is working on a new feature: Channels

A new feature seems to be on its way to Instagram. The originally photo app will make it possible to create channels in the future. It can be seen as a public group chat.

Thanks to Alessandro Paluzzi, a developer who is more likely to release information about apps early, we now learn more about a new feature that Instagram is preparing. When creating a new post, you will soon find the option to create a channel. This is a channel that anyone can join, or just your friends. When creating a channel, you get the option to set up a discussion (for everyone on Instagram) or just for your followers. With the latter option, only administrators can share messages. To keep the channel safe, they can also remove content or expel participants from the channel.

When creating a channel you get the option to show the channel on your profile. Others can also search for your channel. It is not yet known when Instagram will roll out the feature to everyone. We will probably get more information about that in due course.
