India plans to create a new operating system. It has to compete with Android and iOS

There have been several unsuccessful attempts in the past to create a system that can compete in the market Android a iOS. Technology companies have always been behind them. Now the state wants to try, specifically India. The information was provided by the portal AndroidAuthority.

Support for popular applications will be crucial for the system

The smartphone market is currently dominated by only two mobile operating systems – Android and iOS. In the last ten years, several systems created by smartphone manufacturers or technology companies have tried to compete with them. Probably the most famous were BlackBerry 10, Bada OS, Tizen, Windows Phone and WebOS. None of them have succeeded significantly and today they are all in the past.

The Indian government seems to think that there is room in the market for another platform. The Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, revealed the portal The Economic Times, that the Indian government is planning to create a domestic mobile operating system. The Minister stated that he was currently examining the possibilities of startups and academic institutions that could create this operating system.

In addition to smartphones, the system should also be designed for wearable electronics. However, creating a new system is only the first step to its success. It is much more important to attract manufacturers and customers, which will not succeed unless the system has the support of popular applications. This is the main reason why Windows Phone has failed in the market in the past. Huawei is now trying something similar with Harmony OS.
