But life turned out differently: Kimberly also became a house mother. ‘Can also be described as a cooking, cleaning and snot-wiping woman’, she says.
Greatest passion
A few years later she is now in motherhood and she sees the term ‘successful’ very differently. ‘I used to think that you had to have a diploma and then a good salary. Now I know that there are many different ways to be successful. And that being a mother – or better yet: a house mother – is one of them. ‘

Kimberly calls motherhood her greatest joy and passion. “It doesn’t make me useless, aimless or a failure at all, as I used to think when I looked at my own mother.”
Color
Her children teach her to be a better person. “I laugh harder when they’re with me and I feel a joy I’ve never known. They motivate me to get the best out of myself, ‘she says.
She also lists some of the successes she has had as a mother: “When I hug my children, I teach them about love and what it means to feel safe. If I speak to them strictly, I learn to set boundaries. And as I read to them, I help them develop their brains and use their imaginations. All those kinds of things make me a ‘success’. I can honestly say that motherhood gives meaning and color to my life. And I’m not sure a nine-to-five job would.”
