How much does your cell phone harm nature? Vodafone introduces Eco Rating

How do you normally choose a mobile phone? According to price? Parameters? Appearance? That’s probably what the vast majority of customers do, and there’s nothing weird about it. However, if you are also interested in thinking about the environment, you can also take into account when choosing ecological side. Due to the lack of information and data, it is definitely not easy, but the possibilities are increasing. An example is the current Czech Vodafone, which, together with other partners in Europe, is implementing the so-called Eco Rating. That is, a scoring system that evaluates devices in terms of carbon footprint.

It is a scoring system that shows how much environmental burden the phone represents. The rating evaluates the impact of smartphones on the environment from production itself to the end of its life. Customers will have a choice total score on a scale of 1-100 points, while the highest points will be awarded to the most environmentally friendly equipment. For a better idea of how they are performing in individual areas of evaluation, the partial scores for each monitored parameter are used. These include, for example, the lifespan of a given mobile phone, its durability, recyclability and the efficiency of the use of raw materials in production.

You can already find the mentioned Eco Rating on the special Vodafone website. And this for most phones, even in the information about the technical parameters of the device. “The evaluation is created by an independent international consortium, which awards points based on information obtained from manufacturers. This makes it possible compare mobile phones with each other and give anyone who is not indifferent to the state of our planet the opportunity to choose a phone in accordance with their beliefs and values in life, “says Zuzana Holá, Vodafone’s Director of Communications and Sustainability.

Did you find your mobile phone in the list? How is he?
