‘I got pajamas for my baby in size 176 and a can of beer from my mother-in-law’

On Instagram, we asked about the most horrifying to hilarious baby shower gifts ever received. And that resulted in a lot of special answers: from stolen clothing to erotic massage gel. We share a selection of the reactions.

The fact that not everyone knows what to give as a maternity gift is evident from the many and special reactions we received. For example, someone says she has received a very special ‘gift’ from her maternity nurse, namely corona.

Twelve years

And that not everyone pays close attention to the joyful news of the birth, is evident from the reactions of Anouk, Kelly and Janneke. For example, Anouk got a dress while she had a son. Kelly also received a cardigan for a 12-year-old girl while holding a newborn son in her arms. Janneke just got boy clothes for her daughter again.

Another ‘inconvenient’ gift is a summer dress in size 56, while the baby was born in December, Marit sends. Another says that her daughter not only got clothes that were way too big, in size 116. It also turned out to be stolen clothes that still had the alarm thing on them.

A can of beer

In addition, alcohol is also popular as a maternity gift. For example, Noortje was given beer whose expiration date had already expired and Loes had a bottle of champagne from the supermarket, while she was still breastfeeding. The same goes for Nanda, who writes: ‘A bottle of booze under the guise of ‘a present for mom’, but I was still breastfeeding.’ Sofie says: ‘I got pajamas for my baby in size 176 and a can of beer from my mother-in-law.’

In the context of horrible maternity gifts, these answers take the cake: erotic massage gel, wooden green clogs in a size that is much too large, which – as it turns out – never fit a whole group of friends who contributed to a bad and also too small knitted blanket.

Are you going on a maternity visit soon? With these gifts you score points!
