Google shows more of its Imagen Editor for images

Google explained more about the Imagen Editor. That is the tool with which you put artificial intelligence to work on the basis of texts to edit images. This is not about a completely new image, as in Dall-E, for example, but about editing an existing image.

Image Editor

For example, you can take a picture of your dog and put on a sweater, or put on headphones. Google writes: Text-driven image editing can have a transformative impact on creative application support. A key challenge is to generate operations that are faithful to input text prompts while being consistent with the input graphics. We present Imagen Editor, a cascading diffusion model built by refining Imagen to text-driven image editing.”

You can upload a photo, designate a region that you want adjusted and then add a text to give the AI instructions. For example, the dog below asks for a “red spacesuit with a white star” and a “rocket made of cardboard,” plus another “blue gaming headset.” It looks impressive, but at the same time Google says it doesn’t want to release Imagen Editor publicly.

Editing picture’s

That says it out of concerns that exist about how responsible the use of AI is. It can be seen how such an editing tool can take care of creating images that you want without it taking a lot of time. It also resembles the Magic Editor that Google introduced for Google Photos during I/O 2023. That is the tool with which you can, for example, adjust a photo that cuts exactly to balloons in such a way that Google still turns it into whole balloons.

While Google doesn’t plan to release Imagen to the general public at this point, it plans to eventually bring Imagen to Google Slides. This is even being tested in Google Labs. That way you can create your own new backgrounds.

What do you think, should Google not release Imagen Editor to the general public yet? Leave it now in the comments.
