Google Password Manager now also on the home screen

Google now gives users the option to add the Password Manager to their phone’s home screen. This way you can view or copy your passwords to the clipboard much faster. We explain how it works.

Shortcut Password Manager

When you create a new account in an Android app or in Chrome, you will sometimes be asked to generate a secure password or to save the password. This is done with the Google Password Manager, which is a vault with all your login details. Google can autofill your saved passwords or you can look them up yourself in the Password Manager.

Only that looking up passwords on your phone is quite annoying, because the password manager is hidden quite deep in menus. That is now changing, 9To5Google knows, because from now on you can place a shortcut to the password manager on the home screen. You can immediately consult, copy or edit your passwords. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings from your phone
  2. Choose Privacy
  3. Press Google autofill service
  4. Tap on Passwords
  5. Choose it on the right gear
  6. Take the option Add a shortcut to your home screen
  7. The shortcut will appear and long press the icon to drag it on your home screen

The feature has been available since the last update of Google Play Services. You need the June 2022 update or newer version to use the shortcut. To check which version of Play Services you have, go to: Settings -> Security -> Google Play System Update.
