Can you rest during a holiday with children? This is what you think

Devouring piles of books, sitting on the terrace until the late hours and sleeping in undisturbed: that is no longer always an option during a holiday with children. Can you still rest? We asked you on social media.

A selection of the answers.

Holiday with children: to rest or not?

  • Gabrielle: “I can never relax with (small) children.”
  • Jamie: “Yes and no. I sometimes miss reading a book undisturbed, but I can also intensely enjoy outings/activities with the kids. But sometimes pressing the off button would be nice haha. Without a school run and having to do things, there is also peace for me.”
  • Marinella: “Yes! If you choose a place where the kids have or can make enough friends and freedom to play outside together!”
  • Rilana: “Of course it is. My kids have a nice time on vacation. Nothing is necessary, just enjoying each other and having fun. I have no rest when I am without them.”
  • Kimberly: “With a child of 2.5 years and a baby of 8 weeks, it is very tiring. But also very nice! Now it’s a lot of work but it will get better and better every year and before we realize it we are sitting on the terrace with a drink while the children make friends. For now I will take the fatigue with it.”

  • Marja: “Not really, but if the children are enjoying themselves, you as a parent enjoy it too and that’s what it’s all about! We always chose places where they could play and swim to the fullest. You can refuel yourself at another time.”
  • Kimberly: “Nope, hardly any rest. But as long as they amuse them, we’re happy for sure.”
  • Sharon: “Yes, that’s right!! Nothing has to be done, everything relax, son having the time of his life and just beaming. Relaxed guy. I enjoy it immensely and because of that I really relax.”
  • Maureen: “I’ll relax, you’re away from the rut for a while. But you don’t rest with 2 small children around you.”
  • Jose: “Certainly! I relax when I can enjoy myself with my entire family and do fun things with them! When I see my children enjoying themselves, I absolutely relax!”
  • Jacqueline: “Well, no, I don’t really relax. But wouldn’t be able to find my peace when I’m on vacation and she’s at home. Will come again…”
