Gmail gets two panels on foldable Android devices

Gmail is being overhauled on foldable Android phones. You will soon be able to use two panels with the app, where one panel is the list of emails, and the other is the content of the email. This way you can use the fold of your smartphone, or rather the two screen parts, as effectively as possible.

Using Google’s email program, Gmail, on a phone is quite easy. Google has made it an intuitive whole, but it could be better. For example on a foldable phone. Google announces that this two-panel view for Gmail is now also available for Google Meet. The Chat section within Gmail now also has this view, if you choose it.

If it sounds very familiar, that may be true, because Gmail on foldables now looks more like you know it from tablets. It is progress: previously Gmail on foldable phones was stretched enormously, so that it was no longer in the right proportions.

If you want to search your email, you can do so by using the search bar above the row of emails in your inbox. If you want to compose a message, you can also find the button for this on that part of the screen. On the other side you will find the content of the message and a row of labels. The navigation rail seems to no longer be found here, which is present on tablets.

Perhaps it is also striking that Google is again following the Material You design. That means light colors with a blue background for the rest of the page. This is also what Gmail looks like when you use it on the web. This new view for foldable Android phones is now available.
