Getting iPhone 12 repaired becomes easier thanks to new Apple policy
Soon Apple will introduce a new method that makes repairing the iPhone 12 easier. More loose parts can be replaced in the shop so that the unit does not have to be exchanged. The new policy will take effect on 23 February.

iPhone 12 repair becomes easier
That writes MacRumors. The website has seen a memo from Apple in which the company is updating its store employees about the expanded options for repairing broken iPhone 12 smartphones. Authorized service providers are also covered by the new repair policy.
Thanks to a new way of repairing, more individual parts can be replaced in the shop. The advantage of this is that not the entire phone has to be exchanged.
Instantly replace more iPhone parts
Instead, almost all telephone parts can now be made on site. The new repair method comes in handy for replacing a broken back, changing motherboard and repairing the sensors needed for Face ID facial recognition.
Replacing the iPhone 12 camera is specifically not covered by the policy. If you have problems with the camera lenses, the entire device will probably have to be exchanged.
The new repair method, internally called “iPhone Rear System”, only works for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are not mentioned in the memo. It is therefore unlikely that the new repair method will also apply to the best and most expensive iPhones at the moment.
Apple and the environment
Apple says it is making the change for environmental reasons. The company is trying to reduce its ecological footprint and therefore previously deleted the iPhone charger from the box, for example. Since the iPhone 12, which came out at the end of 2020, there is no longer an adapter with Apple phones, so you may have to buy one yourself.
This decision drew a lot of criticism for Tim Cook’s company. Apple, for example, has long been under fire from the repair industry. They claim that the iPhone maker deliberately makes it very difficult to repair their phones. Repair shops also have to adhere to all kinds of conditions imposed by Apple.
