Germans remain loyal to their smartphones

A new cell phone every year? More and more Germans are no longer participating, as a new survey shows. Half of those surveyed want to continue using their mobile phone even after their current contract expires. Older customers in particular remain loyal to their smartphones.

Survey: Many Germans don’t want a new mobile phone

In Germany, the desire for a new smartphone lower than anywhere else in the world. This is the result of a survey by YouGov. 51 percent of the people surveyed in this country stated that they wanted to keep their mobile phone – even if their mobile phone contract expired. Viewed globally, Europeans in particular are of the opinion that their current model is sufficient. In Poland it is 48 percent, in Great Britain and Spain 47 percent. On the other hand, only 28 percent of consumers in India want to stick with their mobile phones.

Depending on age different perspectives emerge. Above all, people aged 55 and over want to keep their smartphone, but 40 percent of 45 to 54 year olds also believe that they do not need a new model. The younger the respondents, the more likely they are to want to buy a new smartphone soon (source: YouGov).

Around half of the reasons given most frequently why it doesn’t have to be a new smartphone were that their model already does everything they need. Around a third gave the reason that they were familiar with the mobile phone brand. 34 percent even believed that their manufacturer was the most reliable.

If it is supposed to be a new cell phone, it might be worth taking a look at the iPhone 14 series:

Cell phones all look the same these days

Globally, 54 percent of those surveyed believe that smartphones all basically look the same these days. The Chinese and Indonesians in particular can hardly tell the difference. In Germany, too, 45 percent ask about external differences – although there are now foldable mobile phones as a category.
